QUEBEC CARIBOU
Our Quebec outfitter runs a “First Class” operation. I hosted a group of hunters with him a few years ago and had a great hunt. The three of us shot 5 nice bulls and saw hundreds of Caribou. The camps are well organized, and the guides are the best in the business. Most importantly he only runs around 250 hunters through a season, compared to some outfitters that run over 1,000 through a season. In 2008, he will have 27 fully operational camps strategically located throughout the Ungava region of Northern Quebec. Only 5 of these camps will be booked at one time - leaving the rest as spare camps in case a move is needed. The Caribou are continually scouted throughout the season, by using his own private Cessna 185 and by strategically placing a spare guide in designated camps. They can usually place each group of 6 hunters in a productive camp from the start of their hunt. (Rarely, and strictly when no other choices are available will more than 6 hunters occupy one camp.)
Quebec has two major herds of Caribou, the George River Herd and the Leaf River Herd. He is one of the few outfitters to have camps intercepting both herds. With constant changes in the migrations nobody should depend on just one herd. Some of the camps that intercept the Leaf River Herd are over 200 air miles from Schefferville and are very costly to fly hunters into, however when needed hunters are flown into these camps immediately at no extra cost.
Our outfitter operates their aircraft from their own private dock. You won't lose valuable time on the 1st day of your hunt waiting on the next available floatplane to fly you into camp. If a move to a more productive camp would prove to be beneficial it will be done "free of charge" without hesitation or complication.
They fly their own single engine Otter & a Cessna 185 floatplane to transport you to and from the camps. His success over the years has been 96% for two bulls. He has also put more bulls in the record book than any other outfitter.
