NORTH DAKOTA WATERFOWL AND PHEASANT HUNTS

DUCKS, GEESE, SWANS, PHEASANTS, AND GROUSE IN THE PRAIRIE POTHOLE REGION

A wide variety of Ducks including Mallards, Gadwalls, Widgeons, Green & Blue Wing Teal, Pintails, Canvasbacks, Bluebills, Ringnecks, Shovelers, and more are harvested on a daily basis by our hunters. Snows, Blues, Canadas, Specks, Sandhill Cranes, and Tundra Swans, can be hunted when the migration is in full swing in October & November. Pheasants, Grouse, and Partridge can all be hunted during the same day.

Our Duck hunting is second to none! These guided hunts take place in fields & over small bodies of water. Our usual morning starts between 5-6 a.m. with hot coffee & toast. The morning shoots for Geese & Ducks usually last until mid morning, and then it is back to the house for a big brunch. The afternoons and evenings can be spent hunting ducks, walking for Pheasants, practicing at our trap range, or taking a nice "siesta".

Canadian Geese are abundant in our Waterfowl area with the majority being giant Canadas. The fields that we hunt in are usually harvested wheat, barley, SoyBean, or Corn fields. Large spreads of decoys (full body, silhouettes, rags, and Goose Magnets) are used in field shoots for Geese. Floating Duck & Goose decoys, as well as several Spinning wing decoys are used for small potholes & big water. Opening day for the Non-resident Waterfowl season will probably be Oct. 3rd, 2009. The best hunting lasts until the lakes freeze over, which is usually in late November.

The Upland game population in south eastern North Dakota has exploded during the last 10 years because of mild winters. Thousands of acres of CRP, standing crops, river bottoms, sloughs, and abandoned farmsteads make ideal habitat for wild Pheasants, Grouse, and Hungarian Partridge.

Hunting hours for straight up Pheasant hunts usually start arond 10 a.m. This gives the birds a chance to come back from the fields and gravel roads and settle back into their cover. Lunch is usually served in the field with all food & beverages provided. We have our own trained dogs to work the fields, but hunters are more than welcome to bring their own. Your hunting partners (dogs) are also welcome in our hunting lodge & kennels. Hunting Pheasants during our combo hunts takes place in the afternnons & evenings. You will be hard pressed to find a better hunt than our all day combo hunts. Exciting decoying action in the morning and flushing Roosters in the afternoon. The opening date for Pheasants in 2009 will be October 10th. However, some of our favorite hunts are late season hunts in November & December.

The Deer hunting in our area is some of the most exciting Whitetail hunting you'll ever find! Most of the hunting is done by walking into their environment, sitting atop high hills and glassing. There is always Deer moving around you. This open country is very deceiving, as mature bucks can be hiding right before your eyes in tall weeds, cattails, or just behind an unknown hill.
